Tara Mardigan is a registered dietitian/nutritionist and founder of ThePlateCoach, LLC, a private nutrition and lifestyle practice where she coaches everyone from couch potatoes to elite athletes in NYC and beyond. She is the co-author of Real Fit Kitchen, a cookbook for athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and weekend warriors. Tara’s mission is to inspire others to find the most nourishing foods and lifestyle choices that work for their health goals and palates.
Prior to moving to NYC in 2015, Tara worked for a decade as the Team Nutritionist for the World Champion Boston Red Sox. In a position she created, she helped the organization incorporate a food-first approach to optimize performance and win championships. She was also an integrative nutrition specialist at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and counseled patients at Lown Cardiovascular Center in Brookline, MA. What’s more, Tara worked on the team that developed Grown, the first organic fast-food restaurant in Miami, FL.
Tara studied nutrition at the University of New Hampshire, Yale-New Haven Hospital (dietetic internship), and Tufts University where she concentrated in nutrition communication (MS) and also health disparities (MPH). She serves on the medical advisory board for the Sjögren's Syndrome Foundation and has long served as a faculty speaker at Harvard Medical School’s Office Practice of Primary Care Medicine course.
Tara is an avid runner and is an RRCA Level 1 certified running coach. In 2017, she created the BedStuy Flyers Running Crew in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. BedStuy Flyers is a free, weekly morning track workout and neighborhood run, open to all ability levels. She navigates NYC via CitiBike and is a member of El Barrio Bikes in East Harlem where she leads community group bike rides and helps promote bike equity. If she's not in NYC, she's likely relaxing with family in the Adirondacks.
